Each of the brainstorming tools reviewed will be compared with others, described, and we will give instructions and the where, when, and how to use it. Most of the items are inexpensive and we will tell you how to find them. Please email us with anything you find that you want to recommend or that you would like us to investigate and review.

Brainstorming Card Decks
There are a number of card decks developed specifically to accelerate brainstorming.
KnowBrainer from SolutionPeople
KnowBrainer
The KnowBrainer is a set of cards, attached so that you can't lose any, and also because they are meant to be used in order. At each point in the innovation brainstorming process there are specific cards to accelerate the process:
1. Investigate
2. Create
3. Evaluate
4. Activate
Each section has question cards to invigorate your thinking, picture cards to inspire, quote cards to cause you to stop and think more deeply, and keywords to spark more ideas.
In addition, you can purchase the system as a computer program or
for your IPod, call the podbrainer.
Thinkpak from Michael Michalko
Thinkpak
Michael Michalko has written excellent books Thinkertoys: A Handbook of Creative-Thinking Techniques (2nd Edition) Cracking Creativity: The Secrets of Creative Genius as well as having developed the Thinkpak. As with the other decks of cards, they can be used when you need some brainstroming tools and are working on your own or with a group.
Whack Packs from Roger von Oech
Whackpack
The Creative Whack Pack and Roger Van Oech's newer set called the Innovative Whack pack work well in a group or for you to use on your own. I sometimes shuffle and pass out a certain number to each person. Then we each take turns reading one and leading the group in idea generation. You can also pick a card at random and work on its subject until you feel you need a new one. There are also brainstorming books which are filled with ideas and which will be reviewed and listed on an upcoming page.
